Intertwining Arts: MESSIAEN - A BIRDSOUL

An interdisciplinary collective that goes beyond music to create a holistic and new concert experience through a special combination of diverse art forms. Last August, I was working with this international collective for the first time. Together with the pianist Elina Akselrud (USA), the dancer Marzia Zuliani (Spain) and the video artist Ernst Kehrli (Switzerland), we staged works by Olivier Messiaen.

Bird calls inspired Messiaen and enriched his already masterful use of complex musical elements. Modern dance and video projections give Messiaen's birds a visual dimension that enters into a completely new symbiosis with the musical one on stage.
